Matt Removal Policy
Groomers are obliged to work within the bounds of the Animal Welfare Act

Areas of matting are felted knots of undercoat and solid tangles of hair and dirt that have formed due to irregular grooming, and once formed cannot be removed by brushing alone. They are uncomfortable for your dog. As they get bigger, they tighen against the skin, causing considerable discomfort and irritation. In the worst cases they can cut off the blood supply to limbs which could result in amputation.

If your dog has small localised matts (eg. behind ears, groin and tail) I will do my best to remove them within the guideance of the Animal Welfare Act

However, if your dog is extensively matted throughout it's coat, the only option is to clip the dog off completely to free your dog from its discomfort. I will always consult with you if I feel this is in the best interests of your dog before clipping. In the event that I have to clip your dog off, I will do my best to return your dog in a respectable condition, rather than just ''hack' off the coat and leave it uneven.

Double Coated Breeds
Double coated breeds such as Huskys, German Shepherds, Pomeranians etc, benefit from bathing, de-shedding, light trimming and tidying. Clumps of felted coat and matting, unless severe, can be removed during the grooming process. It is not generally a good idea to clip this type of coat as it can cause alopecia and coat problems. I will only clip these coats short under exceptional circumstances after careful assessment and consultation. (This includes 'Boo' styled Pomeranians)
